“My entire professional career with Seneca Family Agencies, First 5 Association, Alameda Family Services, and on the Girls Inc. Island City board has been focused on improving the well-being of children, ensuring they have the strongest start in life, and getting the support they need to thrive physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially. I am proud to continue this work as an AUSD Board of Education Trustee.”

“Committed to making Alameda schools a place where ALL students learn and thrive.”

My husband and I chose to move to Alameda in 2003 for many reasons: proximity to larger cities, diversity, commuter options (love the ferry!), walk and bike ride-ability, accessibility of city leadership, small town feel, and the city’s reputation for excellent schools.

Since making Alameda my home, I have engaged in a variety of city-centered initiatives and efforts that demonstrate my dedication to civic duty and engagement. I have been a vocal constituent as our city and district work to be more inclusive, more welcoming, and more embracing of diversity, making Alameda the place where I want to continue raising my children.

I first fell in love with education when I taught special education for Seneca Family of Agencies while earning my Masters in Special Education from CSU Sacramento. It was in this role that I gained a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of social-emotional development and well-being, and students’ educational experiences. When I moved on to First 5 Association as the Systems Improvement Director, I was introduced to early childhood health and development policy. Most recently I am in the role of Director of Operations for Alameda Family Services, an agency that provides family support and early childhood education, as well as mental health support to the entire city of Alameda, including at our schools.

I am the proud parent of two young adults who always attended their neighborhood district schools and who both (recently) graduated from Encinal High School. I am incredibly thankful for the education they received and believe their experiences have helped to shape them into amazing young adults. As a board member, I have been well aware that I made decisions that not only directly affected my children, but also friends and neighbors, some of whom are AUSD teachers and staff. I do not take this responsibility lightly.

Since moving to Alameda, I have supported every bond measure and parcel tax necessary for improving our educational system by walking neighborhoods and campaigning online, including Measures B and E that passed while I served on the board. I have a proven track record of active and sustained engagement in a way that is inclusive and positive, and I have shown that I’m willing to put in the hard work, time, and commitment to being a member of the school board.

In summary, I am passionate about education and I am committed to making Alameda schools a place where ALL students learn and thrive, and where teachers and staff are fulfilled and supported.  I am deeply committed to my community and our students, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring that the amazing achievements we have seen over the last several years continue and expand. I appreciate your consideration for my re-election, I will not disappoint!
